Parent/Volunteer Participation Info

Journey Theater Parent/Volunteer Participation

Volunteer involvement is a unique part of our theater arts  program. Without the support of volunteer committee members, Journey could not produce high-quality, community-pleasing shows.

Production Committee Assignments

Since Journey is a family and community oriented organization, an adult volunteer representing each cast member serves on one or two of several production committees. These committees are called “Production Committees” and include costumes, sound, lighting, concessions, publicity and many more! Each committee supports an aspect of the show.

Volunteers will be assigned to various committees and will receive their assignment before the All Parent Meeting.  Assignments will be posted under the Committees tab, listed under Show Index at the top of the page. Crew parents are not required to serve on a production committee, but are welcome to volunteer if they choose.

While we strive to assign adult volunteers to the committees which they indicate they would prefer to work on, this is not always possible.  In the end, all committee positions must be filled, which means that there are times that volunteers will be assigned to a committee they did not choose on their form.

All Parent Meeting

A mandatory All Parent Meeting for all cast parents and volunteers will be held on Friday, April 4th at Manor Church (17913 NE 72nd Ave. Battle Ground). New show parents will meet at 7pm. Returning parents and/or adult volunteers will join the meeting at 7:30pm. Crew parents are not required to attend, but are welcome and encouraged to join.

New Parent Meeting

A mandatory New Parent Meeting will be held on Friday, April 25th during rehearsal at Manor Church. All cast and crew parents who have not been in a school-year production with Journey before are required to attend. Returning Journey parents are not required to attend this meeting, but are welcome to join if they would like to.

Show Run Committee Meetings

Show run committees will meet at the discretion of each Show Run Committee Chair. It is suggested that Green Room meet prior to Move In, House meet during the last dress rehearsal, and that Box Office meet and train one night during dress week. The Tech Chair will coordinate a time and location for training the Tech Committee.

Committee Meeting Conflicts

If you know in advance that you cannot attend a mandatory committee meeting, you may send another adult in your place who meets these criteria:

  •      They are not already required to attend the meeting (as a volunteer representing another cast member in the show)
  •      They can sit in your committee meeting, gather your assignments and communicate them to you.

You must email the Show Coordinator, in advance, to let her know you will not be at the meeting and who will be taking your place. Please also let the Show Coordinator if you have an emergency and will not be able to attend.

If you miss a meeting and do not send someone to take your place, follow these steps:

  1. Communicate your absence to the Show Coordinator as soon as possible
  2. Contact your committee chair to get their committee assignments within 24 hours of the meeting
  3. Choose one of the following consequences and communicate your choice via email to your Show Coordinator:
    1. Volunteer in the Journey office or warehouse for 4 hours (as projects are available)
    2. Pay a fee of $50 within two weeks
    3. Child(ren) may not audition the next time they are enrolled in a class
